The name "Hycat" is a trademark of Dimension Technology Chemical Systems,
Inc. Hycat™ catalysts accelerate the reaction of epoxy resins with anhydrides,
carboxylic acids and imides. In addition to the epoxy-carboxylic acid/anhydride
reactions, Hycat™ 2000 and Hycat™ 3000 are
excellent catalysts to prepare monomers such as Bisphenol A Epoxy Diacrylate
(reaction of acrylic or methacrylic acid with bisphenol A diglycidyl ether).
These reactions are fast and stereo-specific (over 90 % β-hydroxy ester
formation and less than 10 % homopolymerization of the epoxy group). A
recent patent was issued to DTCS showing how the Hycat™ 2000 and Hycat™ 3000
catalysts can be used to accelerate the reaction of other small ring compounds
with carboxylic acids and anhydrides as well as improving the reaction of
anhydrides with alcohols, diols and polyols. [Click here to see the
patent].
Additional Hycat™ Catalysts are now at the research stage to to accelerate
other epoxy reactions. These catalysts are called Hycat™ AO, Hycat™ UC, Hycat™ ZC and Hycat™
ZEP.
Hycat™ 2000 and Hycat™ 3000
are commercially available in one, five and 55-gallon containers. All other
Hycat™ catalysts are available only in research quantities.
